Outbreaks Detected

2019 - Pita Hot Fullerton, CA: Pita Hot, the Fullerton, CA restaurant with illnesses that were identified by the crowd-sourcing site iwaspoisoned.com was closed for a second time on June 25. The Orange County Health Agency reported ongoing foodborne illness as the reason for the second closure. The agency suspended the restaurant’s operating permit. Pita Hot was ordered to cease handling food, close, and remain closed until all conditions warranting closure are corrected.

2019 - Dominican Republic: Four similar deaths have been reported at nearby hotels, and a growing number of claims have surfaced from people who say they were taken suddenly ill here. One website that collects food poisoning complaints from around the world — iwaspoisoned.com — now has dozens of posts by people claiming nausea and vomiting after stays at hotels here.

2019 - Dominican Republic: As far back as February, Patrick Quaid started noticing an uptick in tourists reporting that they too became ill at various resorts in the Dominican Republic to his open source website, IWasPoisoned.com. Now, he’s catalogued more than 1,000 cases. “As a comparison, we received 10 reports in total in all of 2018 for the Dominican Republic,” Quaid said.

2019 - Dominican Republic: There have also been nearly 70 reports of tourists reporting symptoms of food-borne illness in the Dominican Republic since March alone, according to the website IWasPoisoned.com. More than half of these reports came from tourists who stayed at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Punta Cana.

2019 - Dominican Republic: According to the New York Post, an increased number of tourists have self-reported that they have gotten violently ill while vacationing in the Dominican Republic. Reports of illnesses at Punta Cana have spiked on iwaspoisoned.com since the recent news coverage. On June 14, Melissa Rycroft, known for her appearances on The Bachelor and Dancing with the Stars, revealed that since returning from a family trip to the island, she has been suffering from "severe cramping."

2019 - Dominican Republic: Nearly 70 tourists have reported getting violently ill while vacationing in the Dominican Republic since March, according to a commonly used website that tracks food-borne illness outbreaks. That’s up from just 10 reported illnesses in the country for all of 2018, according to iwaspoisoned.com. In June alone, 52 tourists reported symptoms of vomiting, diarrhea and fever.

2019 - Dominican Republic: There's also a spate of food poisonings. The website IWasPoisoned.com features dozens of complaints from travelers who said they became violently ill at Dominican Republic resorts. But the country's government insists the resorts are safe and has hired a crisis management team to help fix the nation's tarnished image.

2019 - Dominican Republic: The newlyweds join a growing list of people who have reported becoming sick while on vacation in the Dominican Republic. According to iwaspoisoned.com, a website that tracks the number of people who get sick while traveling abroad there have been 470 incidents in June and 254 were reported at the Hard Rock as of June 11.

2019 - Dominican Republic: Besides the deaths, there have been thousands of reports of tourists with food-borne illnesses in the Dominican Republic, according to the website IWasPoisoned.com. Many of the people had stayed at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Punta Cana, which recently announced that it is removing liquor dispensers from the minibars in its guestrooms.

2019 - Dominican Republic: Almost 70 tourists have reported getting violently ill since March, according to a commonly used website, IwasPoisoned.com that tracks food-borne illness outbreaks. There was just 10 in the whole of 2018. Meanwhile 431 people have posted on the site about their experiences in the last week.

2019 - Dominican Republic: Nearly 70 tourists have reported getting violently sick while vacationing in the Dominican Republic since March. The iwaspoisoned.com website, that tracks food-borne illness outbreaks, had only 10 reported illnesses for all of the Caribbean nation in all of 2018. More than 45 of tourists who were ill said they were guests at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Punta Cana.

2019 - Dominican Republic: On the website iwaspoisoned.com Caribbean vacationers report bad food and lousy drinks. Many want to have suffered from nausea, vomiting and diarrhea after their vacation.

2019 - Hog Island Oysters San Francisco, CA: Reports of illness also came to an online food surveillance site called Iwaspoisoned.com. Several people said they had gotten sick after eating oysters at the Hog Island farm store in Marshall. Two reports came from the Hog Island oyster bar at the San Francisco Ferry Building. Five people said they got sick after eating oysters at a New Year’s Eve party at the Battery.

2018 - Pasha's San Antonio, TX: The crowd-sourcing website iwaspoisoned.com has posted more than a dozen reports of illnesses among patrons of the restaurant in the past seven days. The restaurant earned more than a dozen violations in May when city inspectors checked the operation. Those violations included problems with the employee hand-washing sink, a buildup of black material in the ice machine and on the walls, plumbing leaks, and improper storage of food.

2018 - Chipotle Powell, OH: Many people reported “gastrointestinal symptoms” like nausea, vomiting and diarrhea on the website IWasPoisoned.com during the time period identified by the District. In the update on Monday, health officials did not provide any further information on the pathogen behind the illnesses, saying “data analysis is still ongoing and laboratory test results are still pending.” On Thursday, officials tweeted that tests for salmonella, shigella, norovirus and E. coli had all come back negative.

2018 - Chipotle Powell, OH: According to iwaspoisoned.com, a website that tracks food borne illnesses, reports of nausea, vomiting and diarrhea have been filed to the website which suggested that more than 280 customers felt sick after eating at the burrito chain’s Powell, Ohio outpost.

2018 - Chipotle Powell, OH: More than 100 people said they had fallen sick after eating at a Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc restaurant in Ohio, sending shares of the burrito chain down as much as nine per cent on Tuesday. The customers said they suffered from food poisoning and diarrhea after eating dishes including tacos and burrito bowls at the Powell city restaurant over the past few days, according to food safety website iwaspoisoned.com.

2018 - Chipotle Powell, OH: At least two customers wrote on food safety website iwaspoisoned.com that they suffered nausea and diarrhea after eating at the Powell, Ohio restaurant, but added that they had not visited a doctor. “We acted quickly and closed this single restaurant out of an abundance of caution and we are working with the local health officials to reopen this restaurant as soon as possible,” a Chipotle spokeswoman said via email.

2018 - Chipotle Powell, OH: As of Tuesday morning, 105 Illnesses with symptoms such as nausea and diarrhea were reported on the website iwaspoisoned.com, suggesting that more than 170 customers have fallen sick after eating at a Powell, Ohio, Chipotle since Sunday, according to Patrick Quade, the website's founder.

2018 - Chipotle Powell, OH: Chipotle's latest brush with with food-borne illness started in late July, when more than 100 customers posted reports to IWasPoisoned.com, a website that allows people to submit their own reports of food poisoning. Chipotle closed the outpost in question for a day out of an abundance of caution and to cooperate with local health officials.

2018 - Cracker Barrel Crawfordsville, IN: The incident occurred at the Cracker Barrel located at 1005 Candlewood Lane in Crawfordsville. On Feb. 6, MCHD learned of eight people who became ill after dining at the restaurant on Feb. 3. Iwaspoisoned.com was tracking the incidents at the Cracker Barrel, leading FOX59 to inquire about the norovirus.

2018 - Panera Phillipsburg, NJ: One case of E. coli was reported to the website iwaspoisoned.com, which allows users to anonymously report suspected food poisoning, from someone who said they ate at a Panera in Raritan, New Jersey on April 4. The person said they had eaten chicken noodle soup, and that a doctor diagnosed them with an E. coli infection.

2017 - Chipotle Los Angeles, CA: Customers reported their illness on a website that allows them to comment anonymously called iwaspoisoned.com. This is the same site that was used to report illness earlier this year at the Sterling, Virginia, Chipotle store that was temporarily closed due to health concerns. More than 130 customers had complained of foodborne illness symptoms and norovirus, a highly contagious stomach virus, was found to be the cause.

2017 - Chipotle Los Angeles, CA: News of another outbreak was enough to unnerve Chipotle shareholders. The stock of the Denver, Colo.-based chain fell nearly 5 percent Wednesday on heavy volume. There are five posts on iwaspoisoned.com since Dec. 15 describing incidents involving the Chipotle restaurant on West Pico Boulevard, L.A., although the company indicates that the Dec. 16 ad Dec. 18 posts appear to describe the same incident.

2017 - Chipotle Los Angeles, CA: A Chipotle spokesperson stated that management was unable to confirm the claims directly, and this location is enhancing cleanliness protocols, which is policy after any reports of illness. One customer, Michelle La, eats at this Chipotle location twice a week and said, “It's very clean. They follow all the protocols.” Eater located four food illness complaints for Chipotle’s Pico location on the anonymous reporting website www.iwaspoisoned.com.

2017 - Chipotle Los Angeles, CA: ...the fast-casual Mexican restaurant is once again being investigated by health officials after the Los Angeles Health Department received reports from customers and employees experiencing nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea after eating at a restaurant located at 4550 W. Pico Blvd. Many customers have taken to the anonymous forum IWasPoisoned.com to share their complaints about the location's food allegedly causing them to get sick.

2017 - Chipotle Sterling, VA: Chipotle closed the Sterling location on Monday for a “thorough sanitization” after learning of anonymous complaints posted on iwaspoisoned.com, saying it suspected the culprit was norovirus, a common virus that can be spread through food that has been handled by people who are sick. The location reopened on Wednesday. As of late Wednesday night, Patrick Quade, the founder of the food poisoning website, said the site had received reports of 133 people sickened at the Sterling Chipotle.

2017 - Chipotle Sterling, VA: In total, more than 130 people reported becoming sick after eating at the Sterling restaurant, according to Business Insider. The illnesses were reported on iwaspoisoned.com, a crowdsourced website where people can report suspected food poisoning.

2017 - Chipotle Sterling, VA: The cases were posted in 10 separate complaints to food-poisoning crowdsourcing site iwaspoisoned.com. Only three of those affected reported making doctor visits to remedy their symptoms, but one noted that a doctor said they had already seen 12 other patients experiencing similar side effects after eating at Sterling's Chipotle.

2017 - Chipotle Sterling, VA: Chipotle closed the restaurant on Monday and reopened it on Wednesday, following a deep cleaning. News of the outbreak came after more than 100 diners reported symptoms on iwaspoisoned.com, a crowd-sourced website.

2017 - Chipotle Sterling, VA: So far eight cases between July 14 and July 17 were reported to iwaspoisoned.com, a website that allows users to report when they get sick after eating at a restaurant...Customers reported symptoms such as vomiting, severe stomach pains, diarrhea, dehydration and, in some cases, hospitalization.

2017 - Jimmy John Weston, WI: "Some of the illnesses were discovered on a popular online crowdsourcing website, iwaspoisoned.com. Grosskurth further confirmed that the interviews conducted showed that those who had become sick all ate at the same Jimmy Johns franchise, located at 3910 Schofield Avenue, Weston, Wisconsin."

2016 - Melting Pot Tacoma, WA: "The health department took action after receiving a call from a diner Friday morning and a notification from the restaurant food safety site iwaspoisoned.com. It appears that all of the sickened diners ate meat at the restaurant on Dec. 23, said Christina Sherman, an environmental health specialist with the health department’s food safety program. Diners reported vomiting and diarrhea."

2015 - Chipotle Simi Valley, CA: "Crowdsourcing site https://iwaspoisoned.com was referenced recently in a CBS News report in what appears to be a food poisoning outbreak at Chipotle restaurant in Simi Valley, CA. CBS News Los Angeles reported on Aug. 22nd that a number of customers had allegedly fallen ill after dining at the Chipotle. The CBS report noted a primary source as Iwaspoisoned.com."

2015 - Chipotle Simi Valley, CA: "On the website,”Iwaspoisoned.com”, more than a dozen people posted the same symptoms Zreik described after eating at the same Chipotle on Wednesday."

On February 15, 2024 Raw Farm was contacted by the FDA and CDC regarding the epidemiological possibility that Raw Farm raw cheddar cheese might have caused some illnesses within a date range of October 18th 2023 and January 31 st 2024. Some of these patients did not report consumption of any Raw Farm cheddar cheese or other raw dairy products.
