Ice Cream Food Poisoning

It's possible to get food poisoning from store-bought ice cream or from a shop. Salmonella commonly reported diagnosis. In the past, ice cream has been recalled for Salmonella and linked to an outbreak that hospitalized 11. Common ice cream food poisoning symptoms are nausea, diarrhea, and vomiting.

- comments: observed plastic wrap tied around prep sink in the cook line area, used to hold drain plumbing in place. Instructed to remove plastic wrap and cease use of materials that are not smooth and easily-cleanable in food prep areas and maintain.

- comments: observed handwashing sink in drive-thru area with inadequate sealing along equipment and wall. Instructed to provide adequate sealing to all fixtures and equipment exposed to spillage and seepage and maintain.

- comments: observed interior cavity of 2-door vertical cooler next to deep fryers to be soiled with food debris. Instructed to clean nonfood-contact surfaces of cold holding equipment at adequate frequency to prevent build up of soil and food debris and maintain.

51. Plumbing installed; proper backflow devices
- comments: observed food prep sink drain plumbing in cook line area to be loose and in poor repair, plastic wrap used to hold in place to avoid spillage when draining. Instructed to repair prep sink drain plumbing to prevent spillage and maintain in good repair.

54. Garbage & refuse properly disposed; facilities maintained
- comments: observed outside waste receptacle lid not closed and secured, with cardboard and other waste debris extending outside of the receptacle and on the ground of the surrounding enclosure. Instructed to routinely clean outside waste receptacles, outside waste enclosures, and ensure adequate frequency of commercial waste removal to prevent build up of waste and debris in outside enclosure. Priority foundation violation. 7-38-020(b) citation issued.

55. Physical facilities installed, maintained & clean
- comments: observed the following areas of the physical facility to be soiled with food and/or debris: floor beneath dry storage push shelves in rear storage area, floor beneath cooking and hot holding equipment along the main cook line, walls and floor behind ice cream equipment along front service line, base coving throughout the grill line and rear kitchen area, floor and floor drains beneath 3-compartment sink near drive thru. Instructed to clean physical facilities at adequate frequency to prevent build up of food and debris and maintain.
