Lobster Food Poisoning

Eating lobsters can lead to serious food poisoning. Lobsters that eat toxic algae can pass toxins onto diners leading to Amnesic(ASP) or Paralytic(PSP) Shellfish Poisoning. In most cases, symptoms such as diarrhea and vomiting occur within 24 hours followed by headache and memory loss.

My husband and I went to Coopers Hawk in Arlington Heights, IL on New Year’s Eve 12/31/23 for dinner and both woke up at the same time vomiting and diarrhea that night. Most of the affected employees reportedly faced "clinical signs of vomiting and/or diarrhoea" within 24 to 48 hours following the culminating event on December 14. The precise cause of this mass bout of food poisoning remains undetermined at this point, with possibilities including a food-related bacterium or a highly contagious gastrointestinal virus.

Health officials, sensing the severity of the situation, swiftly initiated an investigation. They are now awaiting test results from samples of every item served at the meal. Furthermore, a formal questionnaire has been disseminated to all attendees to gather more insights.
