Onion Food Poisoning

Onions can be a source of food poisoning. In 2021, onions were recalled after causing a Salmonella outbreak affecting more than 1,000 individuals in the US. A Salmonella infection often occurs 12-72 hours after consumption, and is associated with stomach cramps and diarrhea.

I got the chicken quesadilla with only the three cheese blend, chicken, onions and sour cream. Also small chips and cheese. Drink was unsweetened ice tea. Very very sick body aches, stomach pain and multiple trips to the bathroom.  | Symptoms: Diarrhea, Stomach Pain, Body Ache

became worse while sleeping. My stomach was painful to touch and was constantly creating gas. I also had a gagging episode throughout the night. I did not vomit, but felt close to vomiting every time I would get up. Around 2am I work up with diarrhea shortly lived. 9am my stomach began to settle after waking up 4 times to deal with the pain. it was refrigerated. Didn't get anything crazy on it, just pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, olives, cucumbers, onions, mozzarella cheese, tomato sauce, and that's it. Immediately the next day I started to have chills and I knew something bad was coming. Led into a multi-day fever, and 6 days of pure liquid #2 in the bathroom with mega cramps from loss of electrolytes. eating normal, my sister had unknowingly packed her another bag of the lays sour cream and onion chips for an after school snack, and she was eating them while we were driving, 15 mins later she’s vomiting all over the car, and complaining of sickness again. It wasn’t until she ate those chips that she got sick on both occasions. I’ve avoided giving them to her since and she’s not had any issues again. Last night my girls dad gave my 6 year old a bag of the Lays sour cream and onion chips before bed, and within an hour or two she was in tears, having diarrhea accidents and claiming her tummy hurt.
